Being the little bookworm that I am, I’m always searching for new books to read. And I’m really excited when those books turn into movies or TV shows. And we are in the midst of a book-adaptation frenzy. So we should rejoice and read! Today we are not going to discover new books, but rather, make a list of the books you should read (if you already haven’t) in order to be up-to-date with the forthcoming movies or TV shows.
CATCHING FIRE
Second part of The Hunger Games trilogy. The movie will be out in November, so you should be starting to re-read it now, in order to watch the movie and be all like “but it wasn’t like that in the book”. If you haven’t already read it, it follows up after both District 12 tributes have won the Games and return home. But things aren’t peachy and Katniss and Peeta are shipped to a Tour around the Districts where they see the seeds of a rebellion against the Capitol. A rebellion they have helped create. There are a lot of introspective struggles in which Katniss wonders whether to stop the rebellion or to lead it.
GREAT EXPECTATIONS
I bet you read it at school, but the new Miss Havisham is Helena Bonham Carter, so it’s well worth the re-read. The movie will come out in November and we will be able to see Pip and Estella’s story, being portrayed by Jeremy Irvine and Holliday Grainger.
THE HOBBIT
December will bring the second installment to The Hobbit. Originally one book, the movie industry turned it into the quest for more money, and made 3 movies out of 1 book. So this year we get: “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”. Bilbo, who is now in power of The One Ring, together with Gandalf and the dwarves, continue on their journey to meet the dragon. If you haven’t read this fandom classic, shame on you!
DIVERGENT
Excited much? Is it March yet? Before it hits the big screen next year, do yourself a favor and read the story of how Tris chooses Dauntless as her faction, in a dystopian Chicago. See her leave her family and everything she’s ever known behind and start her training. Along the way, she’ll discover herself, love in the form of mysterious and drool-worthy Four and learn that things are not what they seem. Another great YA book with a great heroine.
THE FAULT IN OUR STARS
Shailene Woodley will star in next year’s adaptation of this book that tell the story of sixteen year-old Hazel who is forced by her parents to attend a support group for children living with cancer. There she meets Augustus “Gus” Waters, a former basketball star who lost his right leg. Augustus decides to read ‘An Imperial Affliction’, Hazel’s favorite book, and he becomes almost as obsessed with it as she is. In addition to countless text messages and phone calls, Hazel and Gus begin to spend more time together. Won’t tell you how it continues. You should read this beautiful story.
So, have you read them? Will you?
I am currently reading “The Fault in our Stars”, I read “Divergent” and “Catching Fire”, and I think I should pick up “Great Expectations”…
Either way, I’m pretty up to date, huh?
Read them all except The Hobbit – tried a few times to read The Hobbit but just couldn’t get through it but then again it look me awhile to get through the 1st Lord of Rings book. Granted, I haven’t tried to read The Hobbit since university days.. Maybe I’ll give it a try again but I have no desire to see the movies. The fault in our stars was one of my favorite books of the year. I’ve read Divergent twice already and Catching Fire was my favorite of the entire Hunger Games series.
Catching fire was great. Mockingjay, in the other hand… I have troubles with the end… like there are thousands of things happening in the same paragraph… at least in the movie, they would take their time.
With The Hobbit I found myself in the same situation than with Lord Of The Rings… it took me A LOT of my will power to finish it… even if I liked the story, reading it was… heavy. But once you arrive to the half of the book, the rest is very easy! And I didn’t wanted to finish it…
Divergent is in my reader, I have to finish 5 books in paper that are in my bedside table for too long (like Hush Hush saga… those are also in my “waiting list”).
I’ll give a try to the other books, thanks for the advice
