Yeah, peeps. That is the question. I’m not sure if they are a fandom, but they sure are an obsession.
Story is… 5 years ago, when one of my BFFs was getting married, I decided I wanted to do my hair and make up myself. So where did I go for help? Google and YouTube, of course. Why resort to professionals when you have countless tutorials and DIYs at your service, just a click away.
They helped a lot, actually and, since then, I’ve become obsessed with YouTubers. Specially Beauty, Fashion, homes decor, travel and DIYs. Obsessed I tell you. My YouTube subscriptions grow exponentially every day and I always feel like I get sucked into YouTube’s black hole, because you jump from video to video, until you don’t know where you are or how the heck you got there.
Now, let’s do a quick check-list, shall we?
1/ Do I watch YouTube videos everyday? Yes.
2/ Do I get anxious when my favorite YouTubers haven’t posted in a couple of days? Yes.
3/ Do I stalk follow them on Twitter, Instagram and every other social media? Yup.
4/ Do I dress like them? Yup. In my defense, most of them do style advice and make up tutorials, so it’s not that I’m that crazy.
5/ Do I read news reports on them? Yes.
6/ Would I buy their books or go to a meet up or live event? No, probably not.
7/ Have I stopped watching TV in order to watch YouTube videos? Kinda, yeah. Is it that bad?
I’m a lost cause, aren’t I?
But, what the heck? I have fun. So that’s that. I just wanted to know if they qualified as a fandom or not. What do you say?
