If all the rumors turn out to be true, Disney will no longer be the magical place for little kids, but rather a wet dream for Geeks.
A trip to Universal Studios Orlando is like crossing the brick wall on Platform 9 3/4 and entering the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. In 2017, we will be able to visit Avatar Land and, hush hush, apparently there’s talk of a Star Wars theme park.
And now, hold your horses, Disney and Warner Bros have the idea to create a Lord of the Rings theme park one day.
Don’t know if that day will ever happen. But we Geeks are rejoicing in the possibilities!!!
Or not. Because JRR Tolkien was very vocal against Disney and had a deep concern and strong opinions about adaptations of his legendarium. When the possibility arose to adapt his books to the big screen he wrote that ”It might be advisable [...] to let the Americans do what seems good to them — as long as it was possible [...] to veto anything from or influenced by the Disney studios (for all whose works I have a heartfelt loathing).” (Source: ).
Right. Harsh. And, let us not forget that The Tolkien Estate hold the rights to the theme parks (and they ain’t a walk in the park, those guys). So my fellow Tolkienites, I know we have mixed feelings about this. We want to remain loyal to the Professor’s wishes, but we are dying to travel to Hobbiton, Mordor and Rivendell without having to cross half the world to get to New Zealand.
Let’s imagine for a second that we actually get a LOTR theme park. which would be the rides? We did some deep thinking and came up with the following:
SOARING: THE NAZGUL EDITION
Instead of flying over California on a hand glider, you can now soar over Minas Tirith riding your very own Nazgul.
DUMBO: THE FLYING OLIPHANT
Take a ride on an Oliphant, going round and round a life-sized Legolas.
BIG THUNDER MINES OF MORIA RAILROAD
Take a choo-choo train to the depths of the Mines while you experience the splendor of the dwarf city.
EXPEDITION CARADHRAS
We dare you to take the speedy route through Caradhras on this roller coaster.
Excited about this news? Or would you prefer to respect Tolkien’s ban on everything Disney? Oh, btw, you so have to see !!!
