Because, honestly, this was a long time coming. I mean, I love Ellen, I really do. She made the Oscars fun, approachable, even cozy. And she made them unexpected. You never knew what she’d do next.
But the Oscars are supposed to be something spectacular. The biggest show ever. So for someone who has hosted the Emmys twice and the Tonys four times (and has won 4 Emmys for his Tony hosting gigs), this should be easy.
And I need the Oscars to be what they once were. A show on themselves. Not just a bunch of awards and thank you speeches one after the other. That’s why I loved Hugh Jackman as a host. Because he did big musical numbers.
And if this is any indication of what Neil Patrick Harris can do…
