Between Terminator, Jurassic World, Star Wars, Mad Max and all the others that are about to be released or just have been announced, I feel like we are back to the early 90′s. The kid inside me is beyond excited! Like… everything I loved when I was young, is cool again! And now, my old, boring 30 year old self is more “in the know” that my cool 13 year old cousins. I’m so loving this.
So, yeah, anyways. I went to watch “Jurassic World”. I actually did watch another bunch of movies while I was MIA, so I might do some quick reviews about those as well later on.
But back to Jurassic World. Am I the only 30 year old who kind of teared up a bit when she saw the gates to the park? Or hear the theme? Or saw the old visitor center and banner? I loved the references and little homages to the old movies. All the nostalgia, all the special effects and all the thrills made me feel like a little girl again. I was both smiling like an idiot and nervous as hell through out the whole movie. Which is the best feeling everrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Let’s go bit by bit, k?
The storyline: it’s a Jurassic Park movie. The story line is pretty basic. Exactly what you are expecting: big amusement park. Dinosaur set loose. Chaos. Lots of teeth. Heroes. And that’s exactly why it works. Because even though the powers that be behind the park keep saying over and over that people want more, bigger things and that nothing seems to surprise them anymore, we people are actually drawn to the simplest of stories. This movie works because -ok, the new dino is humongous- but the story is as basic as that one from 22 years ago. And it still works perfectly fine.
The kids: because you always have to have kids in danger, right?
Bryce Dallas Howard: she was perfect. You can totally see her being the cool, calculating manager of the park. And you still believe her transformation into the bad-ass chick. Although… the biggest FX for me in this movie was that she runs for 2 hours straight in the mud in high heels. I mean… come on! I can barely walk in stilettos, let alone run for my life from a T-Rex.
Jake Johnson: as sarcastic technical engineer Lowery he is the most perfect character. He wears an old Jurassic Park t-shirt, has dinosaur toys on his desk, and always has the most amazing and funny comebacks.
Vincent D’Onofrio: you are rooting for a dinosaur to just eat his head since he utters his first word in the movie.
Chris Pratt: he can be my Alfa whenever he likes!!! He is the perfect dashing, charismatic, caring, funny hero. It’s amazing to see how he can play a character that’s both easy and laid-back, while always being in control and in charge. Basically, like the kids say: I wanna stick with him.
The raptors: I used to be so scared of the growing up and now… they kind of the heroes (together with the T-Rex). That was a cool twist.
So, basically. Go watch the movie and have fun.
