Just finished reading the “Beautiful Player” book yesterday and can I just tell something to Will Sumner?
I just recently started reading these books and loving them. I was sort of skeptical at first. They were compared to the Fifty Shades trilogy (which I didn’t like), so I wasn’t sure about reading them. But, being the little book addict that I am, I gave them a chance. Bennett from “Beautiful Bastard” was hot. Max Stella from “Beautiful Stranger” was my favorite. And this past week was the release of Will Sumner’s book, “Beautiful Player”. And…
OH
MY
GOSH
YOU
GUYS
!
I’m madly, head over hills in love with William. He is totally my new Book Boyfriend!!!
Let’s recap, shall we? The series is surprisingly good. The sex scenes are sooooo hot, I’m pretty sure you are supposed to read them while sitting inside your fridge. Be prepared, there will be curling toes aplenty!
The girls are actually nice. Thing is, in most romance novels I just want to hit the leading lady over the head, grab her shoulders and shake her, yelling “Oh my God! You can’t be so annoying”! I usually just keep reading until the book ends because of the men. But with these books, Chloe and Sara and Hanna are nice. I could actually be friends with them. I don’t find myself constantly planning slow deaths for them for being so idiotic. Which is nice. Cuz, honestly, these kind of books are meant to have zero female character description because, as soon as we open the front cover of the book, WE are the leading lady. So, who cares if the character is actually a blond or a brunette? But with the “Beautiful Bastard” books, I actually liked the female characters. Kudos to the authors!
The BB books are filled with funny, playful, witty banter between the characters. And, more often than not, I found myself grinning like an idiot while reading the books on the subway on my way to work. Want an example? This conversation is from “Beautiful Player”:
“Ben,” Max said, leaning back in his chair with a giant grin. “It’s finally happened.”
I groaned, resting my head on my hand.
“You got your period?” Bennett asked. “Congratulations.”
“No, you twat,” Max said, laughing. “I’m talking about Will. He’s gone arse over tits for a girl.”
The men.
Enough said.
And this past week, William Sumner just stole my heart. Reading my Twitter feed, I’ve realized I’ve Tweeted the phrase “OMG! #WillSumner can’t be any cuter!” about a hundred times. But it’s the truth. With this book it’s not only about the sex (though is quite spectacular, let me tell you). It’s all about Will. There are plenty of reasons to fall madly in love with the guy:
1/ He has a smoking body. I mean… hello! Hanna trips and falls down just by getting a pick of his stomach when he lifts his arms and his shirt lifts a little.
2/ He is covered in tattoos which actually have some meaning for him.
3/ He is older and more experienced and is willing to take Hanna under his wing and teach her things *wink, wink*
4/ He is funny, sweet and totally geeks-out every now and then (be still, my nerdy heart)
5/ Even though he is wealthy, business driven, a real grown-up (as opposed to Hanna) and a supposed “player”, he doesn’t think twice about hanging out with his college best friend’s little sister who he hasn’t seen in ages, and who can easily be cast into “The Big Bang Theory” bunch.
If that isn’t enough to have you running to your book store to get a copy of this book (What? Are you made of stone?), let me tell you that Will is LIKE THE CUTEST GUY LIKE EVER! These books are awesome because we get one chapter from her POV and the next, from his, and so on. Which is great to see what’s going on inside the dude’s head. But with “Beautiful Player” it was better. Way better. I don’t know if it was just me (cuz I have the biggest book-crush on Will) or if the authors actually planned the book to be like this, but I felt like most of the important scenes and inner debating were made from his POV. Which was un-believable! I know. I know. Will is perfect because he is a fictional creation made up by 2 girls. So, duh! He’s gonna be what every girl wants. But still. Let me enjoy this for a bit. Don’t be a spoil sport.
Will has been a player since like, forever. He hasn’t had a serious, steady relationship. He schedules his sex encounters in his Google Calendar. Come on. He could be total douche-bag material. Yet he is not. Far from it. He is said to be a player. But he doesn’t use women. He is very upfront about the things he wants and what he expects from women. The whole book is filled with references to the talks he has with girls before starting anything with them. So he gives them the choice. If women want to play along, he is game (and, honestly, who wouldn’t?)
So, even-though he might start off as a commitment phobic guy, by chapter 2 he has fallen in love with Hanna and by chapter 4 he has owned up to his feelings. And he is scared as hell about it. Hanna twice asks him “not to break her”, but honestly, even if Hanna is the young, inexperienced one and just now started the whole dating thing and all, he is the one who stands on the brink of being heart-broken. And the great thing about it? He is willing to put himself out there. One of the best lines in the book is almost at the very end, and it just shows you how sweet he is:
“…even worse was the knowledge that she had the power to break my heart and had very little experience being careful about it. I was completely at her fumbling, inexperienced mercy.”
You just died there a little, didn’t you?
Another great thing about Will is that he doesn’t display the typical “alpha male” possessiveness and creepy attitudes that are so common in most of the books. He encouraged Hanna. He was proud of her and wanted her to become her own person. He wasn’t this suffocating, stalker of a guy. And even better? He knew what he wanted but was unsure of himself. His vulnerability was endearing.
And the romance just flows. In most books, the sex scenes are steamy, but that’s it. You finish the book and you wonder what the heck they saw in other. You can’t see why they fell for each other. With Will and Hanna? Perfect love story.
I won’t spoil anything else for you. Go buy the book. Read it. You can send me a box of chocolates to thank me later.
