If you think that I’m way too obsessed with Outlander now… wait until the show premieres!!! You’ve been warned. Don’t tell me later that you didn’t know. You come here at your own risk.
Have you been following this ? We’ve already covered the basics for the books and now we’ve switched to the TV show. Today is the turn of the wonderful cast for the show that will air (when?) on Starz. As you might have noticed from almost every post we’ve done here, we just LOOOOOOVE the cast. Starz and their casting directors are doing an amazing job! We love every new actor as soon as his/her photo is released.
For you that have been living under a rock and haven’t payed attention to the casting news or for you, newbie of the Outlander world, what follows is a small recap of the cast to date:
JAMIE FRASER
Le us all sigh together. Oh, Jamie… Ok, back on track. 33-year-old Scottish hunk Sam Heughan will be playing the “King of Men”, Jamie Fraser. I always thought Jamie would be the last one to be cast. Or the last one to be announced. I thought they would drag it out as long as possible until we were so crazy with desperation that we’d just snap. But no. They took pity on us and announced him first. After that, all was bliss in our lives.
CLAIRE BEAUCHAMP
Claire is played by Irish actress/model Caitriona Balfe. She has been in stuff like “Escape Plan”, “Now you see me” and “Super 8″. Oh, and she was a Victoria Secret model! Not only is she playing one of the best characters ever, but she is adorable. I so have a girl crush on her.
FRANK RANDALL / JONATHAN “BLACK JACK” RANDALL
Isn’t he just spot on??? Tobias Menzies is taking on the task of playing Claire’s 20th Century husband and his evil ancestor.
COLUM MACKENZIE
The Laird of clan MacKenzie will be played by Gary Lewis, Scottish actor who has had roles in “Eragon”, “Billy Elliot” and “Gangs of New York”.
DOUGAL MACKENZIE
Colum’s younger brother and War Chieftain of the clan will be played by Graham McTavish (cool surname, huh?), who we already saw as the dwarf Dwalin in “The Hobbit” trilogy.
MURTAGH
Jamie’s Godfather will be played by Duncan Lacroix, who’s been in “Game of Thrones” and “Reign”
GEILLIS DUNCAN
Lotte Verbeek will portray the Witch Geillis. She is from the Netherlands and will also be seen in the movie “The Fault in Our Stars”. But she is used to parading in period clothes, cuz she was a part of the tv show “The Borgias”.
MRS FITZ
Colum might be the Laird, but Mrs FitzGibbons runs the castle. This lovely lady will be played by Annette Badland, who has been in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”, “Dr. Who” and “Casualty” among other things.
ANGUS MHOR
Stephen Walters will be Angus, who’s character has been enlarged for the series.
LAOGHAIRE
Nell Hudson will be playing the little blond b!tch. Start hating her now and don’t feel bad. We all hate her.
The rest of the cast includes:
Roderick Gilkison as Hamish McKenzie
James Fleet as Rev. Reginald Wakefield
Laura Donnelly will play Jenny Fraser
Grant O’Rourke will play Rupert MacKenzie
Kathryn Howden as Mrs Baird
Tracey Wilkinson as Mrs Graham
Aislin McGuckin as Letitia MacKenzie
Liam Carney as Old Alec
Prentis Hancock will play Uncle Lamb
Simon Callow as the Duke of Sandringham
Bryan Larkin as Geordie
There are some others that I’m not sure if they are officially confirmed or not… And they are:
Bill Paterson as Ned Gowan
Tim McInnerny as Father Bain
John Sessions as Arthur Duncan
On the other hand… HERSELF will have a small cameo, with 2 full dialogue lines. For all of you not in the know, “Herself” is our writer Goddess herself: Diana Gabaldon.
I’ve a hard week at work, so I haven’t been paying a lot of attention. Maybe we already know what part she’ll play or someone has already figured it out. I don’t actually know. But I hope and wish and dream with the fact that she is the lady that gives Claire her dress and helps her before the wedding. I’d cry my eyes out if that were the case!
Could this cast be any more perfect? I really don’t think so!
From her Facebook post today, it sounds like Diana will appear in the episode that include The Gathering.
Yup. Just saw it too:
