As a hard core Tolkien fan who has read everything I could get my hands on (almost to his grocery shopping list), I’m sort of bipolar with this piece of news.
A couple of days ago, Warner Bros. that they got JK Rowling to accept revisiting the wizarding world of Harry Potter. I mean, come on! When she said that she was done with Harry Potter after the last book I was like “yeah, right! You are sitting on a gold mine, lady. You won’t quit it”. But I thought at the time, that I was in denial. That it was inner fangirl mourning the end of Harry Potter and holding on to the last sliver of hope. Turns out my skepticism was right and JK Rowling and Warner Bros think they can still empty our pockets (they so totally can).
So, when I read that first tweet announcing that we would get to be muggles again, I swear I was overjoyed.
Apparently, Rowling will make her screenwriting debut in the adaptation of her book “Fantastic beasts and where to find them”. The movie will be neither a prequel nor a sequel to the series, but an extension of its world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be there, but Newt’s story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry’s. Sorry HP kids. You won’t get big fat checks for this one cuz your characters weren’t even born!
I’m ambivalent (ha! using big words today). I’m super excited about being able to get into Harry Potter’s wizarding world again, but the book is like 50 pages long. It’s a school text book, really, so they’ll have to change and invent a lot of things. It’ll be kinda weird…
So, excited? Afraid? Already saving up money to go watch it 5 times in the cinema?
