I’m sure I’m not the only one who cried while watching this teaser trailer, right?
Let’s start with the song. Pippin singing that song, and making me remember that scene from Return of the King, gave me chills. This just tells me that I’m going to be crying all through the movie. (Note to self: start stocking on tissues).
Not only the music, but I believe the lines that are used in this teaser trailer are meant for the fans. “One day I’ll remember. Remember everything that happened. The good, the bad. Those that survived and those that did not”. As a fan, that’s my exact feeling right now. I know that once these movies are over, I’ll remember everything. Every single place and every single character from time in Middle Earth. “Will you follow me, one last time”? Yes Peter Jackson. I’ll follow you anywhere!!!
Now… the images. You can totally tell how they are approaching the Lord of the Rings trilogy’s feel and mood. This teaser is so much darker, sadder. And there are a lot of reminiscences to the first trilogy. The refugees from the destroyed Lake-town look like the people Rohan escaping to Helm’s Deep. Galadriel’s bare feet are like when she walks through Lothlorien to make Frodo look into the future. Gandalf riding through the ruins of Dale, much like his entrance to Minas Tirith.
I have to say that I like the fact that the teaser doesn’t revolve around Smaug. The only time we see him is when he sets Lake-town on fire (amazing shot, that one). But I like that the teaser centers on the people and all the other conflict. Not just the dragon.
And, this has to be said: I’m loving all the Bard hero-shots. I know he is an Aragorn-like character, what with being the long-lost-heir and all that. But his role in the book is minimal. So I like these glimpses they are letting us see. And the scene where the Elven army opens up for him gave me goosebumps.
So, basically, I can’t wait to see this movie. Even if it will mark the end of my time in Middle Earth.
