A clear sign that you are a true fan at your very core, is that your fandom permeates every single thing you do. You take for fandom everywhere you go. Specially on vacation. That’s why, more often than not, we plan our vacation trips according to a fandom. Or… if that’s not possible, we are always able to find something relating to it, wherever we go.
Admit it. We’ve all taken photos of ourselves next to a sign, an otherwise meaningless shop or next to a door to a private house, while we hope the owner doesn’t come out right that minute.
So as a matter of public service, here at Fandom Obsessed, we decided to start an “On Location” guide, to make it easier for you to plan your next vacation. Basically, because I’d be combining two of my passions: travel and fandom. Yay! This is going to be fun!
This week will start with the locations for the Divergent movie (duh!)
ABNEGATION HOUSES
The Abnegation sector of Divergent’s Chicago was filmed on the corner of W Harrison St and S Wells St, just across from the Oscar O. D’Angelo Park.
But don’t go there expecting to see the square, grey houses where Tris climbs to the roof. Reality is somewhat disappointing…
DAUNTLESS CAFETERIA
The interior of the Defender Building (2400 South Michigan Avenue) was used to film the scenes where all the Dauntless gather to eat.
FERRIS WHEEL / NAVY PIER / WAR GAMES
This one is pretty obvious…
ERUDITE
When Tris goes to talk to Caleb at Erudite HQ, she walks right past this…
Which is this…
That’s the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library, located at S Ellis Av and E 57th St
It was also used as an interior location, where Caleb and Tris talk.
THE HUB
The entrance to The Hub, where Tris and Caleb go for the Choosing Ceremony was shot at the Tribune Tower.
The Tower is located at 435 N Michigan Ave.
CHOOSING CEREMONY
Just a little south from the Tribune Tower is the Seventeenth Church of Christ, where the Choosing Ceremony was filmed.
This is the real interior…
And this from the outside…
Hope you enjoyed our little Tour of Divergent Chicago!!!
The views of the city killed me, in the movie. And they weren’t even half as beautiful as Chicago actually is!! (Because of the whole post-Apocalyptic future and all that)
It made me want to go to Chicago so bad!
