Yesterday, Monday April 22nd, the Backstreet Boys received their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!!! I’m so excited!!!
This is like a huge deal. Not only for them, but for us fans too! At least for me. Looking back, I have a lot of memories that include them. Getting their first CD as a Christmas present from my grandma, going to their concerts, being all worried when Brian had to have open-heart surgery, painting my nails black and blue for the release of their album, going insane trying to follow their “Around the world in 100 hours tour” for the Millennium album… I did that without Twitter, Facebook nor Instagram. Do you have any idea how hard that was?
Let’s recap our life as a BSB fan:
- We bought every album. Even the singles.
- We bought every magazine that had them on the cover (who can forget the Rolling Stone cover with their pants down?)
- Had folders filled with articles, photos, posters, and mementos.
- We eagerly waited for the release of every new song.
- We were glued to the TV for the MTV premiere of their music videos. Yes, you young people, the “M” of MTV used to stand for music. They used to air video clips 24/7. Oh, those glorious days!
- We had our shocks too: Brian having surgery, AJ going to rehab, Kevin leaving the group.
- In the pre-YouTube era, I used to tape on several VHS cassettes, all their interviews and Award Show Appearances. That was being a fan.
- I knew the choreography for every song.
- I even bought the CDs and went to several Aaron Carter shows. No judging. You did that too!
- I have all their solo CDs.
- Went to see Kevin on “Chicago” in Broadway.
- Hated Leighanne on the “As long as you love me” video. Come on! She was taking Brian from us! But then, we loved her.
And now, 20 years later, we have our star!
